LAX Suspicious Bag Contained Microphone

Microphone found in checked luggage "determined to not be a threat"

A suspicious bag at Los Angeles International Airport that promoted a partial evacuation of Terminal 6 on Tuesday morning contained a microphone, according to an airport spokeswoman.

"LAPD Bomb Squad reported the suspicious item was a microphone packed inside a hard plastic container with a twist cap, and was determined to not be a threat," wrote LAX spokeswoman Nancy Suey Castles in a statement.

The incident began around 7:12 a.m. when a suspicious bag was discovered during a checked-luggage security screening, according to Castles.

The north side of Terminal 6 was partially evacuated and screening was halted for about 90 minutes.

By late-afternoon Tuesday, LAX officials had tallied the number of flights affected by the incident.

"Eight airlines reported this morning's incident resulted in a total of 27 departure delays. While four flights experienced a two-hour delay, the others averaged delays of about 30 minutes. There were no cancellations. Arrival flights experienced little to no impacts," wrote Castles in a statement.

Authorities located the owner of the item, who was being interviewed by officers, said Marshall Lowe, an airport spokesman.
