Aerial Dancers Prance Along City Hall in Honor of ‘La La Land' Day

Mayor Garcetti declared April 25 "La La Land" day in honor of the Oscar-winning movie musical.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti declared Tuesday "La La Land'' day before a group of acrobatic dancers gave a stunning performance suspended by ropes along the side of City Hall as a jazz ensemble played several tunes from the film.

Garcetti even showed off some of his own jazz stylings and played the piano for the crowd.

The film's Oscar-winning director, Damien Chazelle, composer Justin Hurwitz and production designers David and Sandy Wasco were on hand, along with choreographer Mandy Moore and jewelry designer Kyle Chan.

The modern musical stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as two Hollywood nobodies who fall in love while trying to make their dreams come true. The film prominently features many L.A. locales, including the Griffith Park Observatory, the Angels Flight railway and the Grand Central Market.

"In 'La La Land' we saw, as it has been stated so often, a beautiful, beautiful postcard to the city,'' Garcetti said.
