Lockdown Lifted, No Gunman Found at Lakewood Medical Center

A hospital employee reported seeing an individual with a weapon inside the building

A lockdown prompted by a report of a gunman inside Lakewood Regional Medical Center was lifted Tuesday after a search of the building, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities received the report from the hospital campus (map) at 12:20 p.m., said Lt. Anthony Tachias of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Authorities searched the building, but did not find anyone with a weapon.

A search continued early Tuesday outside the medical center, but aerial video showed many of the responding deputies leaving the medical center parking area.

St. Pancratius Catholic School was also temporarily locked down.
