Cancer Patient Takes Field to Watch Dodgers' Batting Practice

Marcus Cato, a former high school baseball player

A die-hard Los Angeles Dodgers fan who is battling leukemia got an experience that most fans only dream about.

Marcus Cato was on the field to watch the team's batting practice Thursday night before their game against their rivals, the San Francisco Giants.

The arrangement was set up by a non-profit group, DKMS, that helps fight blood cancer.

Cato is a former high school baseball player, so he knows his way around a baseball field. He met players, took a few photos with the Dodgers and received some autographs.

The experience also carried special significance because he turned 21 just a few days ago.

"The fact that I'm here, Dodger Stadium, on the field -- it's very exciting," said Cato, wearing a Dodgers cap. "I didn't think I'd ever get an opportunity to do this.

"I'm still ecstatic. I'm so excited to be able to watch this and see all the guys."

Cato, who wants to study business at Fresno State , was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in May, and is in desperate need of a bone marrow donor. Since he is biracial, it is more difficult for him to find a donor who is a match.
