Dog Dies, Man Hospitalized After Bee Attack in Loma Linda

The Golden Retriever received more than 100 bee stings, firefighters said

A dog died and her owner was hospitalized after being attacked by a swarm of bees at their Loma Linda home Sunday, authorities said.

The 43-year-old man was bathing his 12-year-old Golden Retriever, which had been sprayed by a skunk the night before, when both were attacked by bees just before noon, said Capt. Tom DeBellis of the East Valley Fire Department.

The dog, Daisy, received more than 100 bee stings, and her owner and firefighters who responded to the attack were also stung multiple times.

Daisy was sprayed with foam and given oxygen and Benadryl. She was taken to an animal hospital but died Monday morning, the family told NBC4

The man was hosed down with foam by firefighters and taken to a hospital for treatment.

San Bernardino County Mosquito and Vector Control officials were called to the home to help control the swarm of bees.
