Inmate That Escaped LA County Jail Captured After Three Weeks

Christopher Brown, 37, had escaped from Los Angeles County Jail on Mar. 12 just hours after he was sentenced in connection with a burglary.

An escaped inmate who had been missing for three weeks was captured Wednesday, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said.

A witness reported seeing a man that looked like Brown outside the Pico Youth and Family Center in Santa Monica around 9:20 p.m. Wednesday. Santa Monica Police took Brown into custody shortly thereafter.

Brown is being held without bail and will be charged with escape.

Brown was convicted March 6 of two counts of second-degree commercial burglary and one count of receiving stolen property. The Alhambra man had been sentenced to four years and eight months in county jail for stealing computers from a medical center, possibly compromising patient data.

Jail records show Brown was arrested Dec. 3. by Alhambra police after a break-in at the AHMC Healthcare building in Alhambra. Two computers and three flash drives containing thousands of patients' information were stolen.
