A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy is recovering after being shot Sunday morning in El Monte.

The shooting happened in the area of Durfee Avenue and Peck Road at 8:56 a.m., deputies said.

The deputy's injuries were not life-threatening, said Sgt. Pauline Panis of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

Witnesses say the shooting involved two carjackers who were in the vicinity and who are still being sought, officials said.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert at 9:43 a.m., closing the Peck Road offramp to the westbound Pomona (60) Freeway for an unknown duration while the investigation continues, Panis said.

A search for the two suspects continues. The last vehicle carjacked was a light blue 1996 Plymouth Voyager with license plate 3PHK484.
