Los Angeles Dodgers Injury Updates: Joc Pederson Still in Concussion Protocol

Injury updates for the Los Angeles Dodgers as of the week of May 28, 2017. Updates include: Justin Turner, Joc Pederson, Rob Segedin and more.

The injury bug bites all teams from time-to-time, but the Los Angeles Dodgers seem to always be the main course.

Fresh off their record-breaking season in 2016 for most players on the disabled list, the 2017 edition of the Dodgers is on pace to shatter that record.

In 2016, Dodger players were sent to the disabled list a record 33 times, including an MLB-best 29 different players.

As of today's date, the Dodgers have sent 20 different players to the DL in 2017, including 22 total trips.

MLB leader in batting average, Justin Turner, remains on the disabled list as the Dodgers wrap up their 10-game homestand at Dodger Stadium on Sunday.

Joc Pederson is also on the DL with a concussion, and has been asked to stay away from his phone, video games, and the dugout during the games, while he goes through concussion protocol.

Here's the updates:

Scott Kazmir (Left hip strain): Kazmir was moved to the 60-day DL on Friday, retroactive to March 30th. After a tough spring for Scott, his velocity is returning while he rehabs in Arizona. According to Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts, Kazmir is getting closer to making a rehab start in Class-A Rancho Cucamonga, likely during the month of June.

Andre Ethier (Lumbar disk herniation): Andre Ethier has been on the 10-day DL since March 30th, and could be a candidate for a move to the 60-day DL soon. He's rehabbing in Los Angeles with the team, but mentioned to NBC LA, that he has yet to ramp up his baseball activity. He is expected to go on a rehab assignment at some time in July and will likely return to the club after the All-Star break.

Justin Turner (Right hamstring strain): Turner was leading the league in batting average at .379 when he reached for his right hamstring and came up limping trying to score from second on a single to left field. Turner told NBC LA he's feeling better, and was seen taking batting practice and fielding groundballs over the weekend. Dodgers' manager Dave Roberts said JT will travel with the team to St. Louis, and is expected to be activated at some point during the road trip.

Luis Avilan (Left triceps soreness): Avilan was placed on the 10-day disabled list on Friday after he felt some soreness in his triceps muscle of his pitching arm. The injury is not serious, and Avilan is expected to be activated as soon as he is eligible on June 5th.

Yimi Garcia (Right elbow surgery): Garcia was placed on the 60-day disabled list on February 15th after undergoing Tommy John surgery. He is expected to miss all of the 2017 season, but be back in time for Spring Training of 2018.

Joc Pederson (Concussion): Pederson was placed on the seven-day concussion DL after he ran full speed into Yasiel Puig's elbow during a collision in the outfield on Tuesday night. Originally, Pederson passed the initial concussion tests, but felt dizzy and disoriented the following morning. Doctors have asked him to stay away from his phone, television, video games and other electronics. He also has been asked to avoid the clubhouse during games. He will not travel with the team during their seven-game road trip to St. Louis and Milwaukee, but is expected to be activated when the team returns home on June 5th

Andrew Toles (Torn right ACL): Toles underwent surgery this week to repair the torn ACL in his right knee after he collided with the short porch in left field trying to preserve a no-hitter for Julio Urias. Toles will miss the remainder of the 2017 season, but is expected to make a full recovery for 2018.

Rob Segedin: (Right toe and right wrist): Segedin was originally placed on the 10-day DL on April 19th with a right toe injury. After over a month of rest and recovery, problems arose in Segedin's right wrist, and the right-hander will undergo surgery this coming Wednesday to remove bone spurs from the wrist area. He is expected to miss the next four to six weeks, and could also be a candidate for the 60-day disabled list, retroactive to April 19th

Brock Stewart (Right shoulder tendinitis): Stewart started the season on the disabled list and is close to returning to the Dodgers. He made his first rehab assignment with Class-A Rancho Cucamonga this weekend, and is expected to head to Triple-A Oklahoma City once he's ready to return.

Dodgers injury updates are provided each and every week, usually on Friday or Sunday throughout the season.
