Raw Video: Car Without Tire Grinds to Stop After Pursuit From Long Beach to Cajon Pass

The pursuit began after a report of a DUI driver in Long Beach and continued at speeds around 75 mph on several freeways

Police pursued the driver of a car missing a tire Sunday afternoon on freeways in southern Los Angeles County and into the Cajon Pass, about 70 miles from where the pursuit started.

The pursuit began after a report of a DUI driver in Long Beach and reached speeds around 75 mph on several freeways in southern LA County before entering the San Bernardino area on the 215 Freeway. Sparks flew from the Honda Accord, missing the driver's side front tire, as brake and suspension components ground on the freeway.

The car slowed to a stop in a shower of sparks on the 15 Freeway in the Cajon Pass, a mountain pass between the San Bernardino Mountains and the San Gabriel Mountains. The driver, the only occupant, surrendered to California Highway Patrol officers.

It was not immediately clear whether the tire was destroyed by a spike strip.

Traffic backed up for about a quarter-mile on the northbound 15 Freeway as officers took the subject into custody.
