Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies shot and wounded an armed 18-year-old man Saturday in Norwalk, officials said.

The deputy-involved shooting was reported at 2:48 p.m. in the 11900 block of 162nd Street near Hermosillo Park (map), according to Deputy Guillermina Saldana of the Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

A witness said the incident occurred during a Halloween parade. The city has an annual Halloween parade that was slated to begin at 11 a.m. Saturday and end at Hermosillo Park, according to the Norwalk municipal website.

The suspect was identified only as an 18-year-old man, and officials said he had a weapon.

He was wounded and taken to a hospital in unknown condition, Saldana said.

No deputies were injured in the shooting, and there were no additional suspects.

In its statement on the incident, the sheriff's department said any deputy-involved shooting prompts "multiple independent investigations" that "immediately begin at the scene."
