A 66-year-old man was shot and killed by Los Angeles police after fire officials reported a man with a knife making threats.

Police were sent to the 2600 block of Manhattan Place (map) at about 9:30 a.m. after a call from Los Angeles Fire Department personnel, according to Officer Rosario Herrera of the Los Angeles Police Department.

"The officers entered the location, and the officer-involved shooting occurred,'' Herrera said.

The man was identified only as a 66-year-old Hispanic man. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

The shooting took place in the Jefferson Park area of South LA.
