The man accused of fatally stabbing a woman in her Mid-City apartment last week had been deported to Mexico twice before and had a prior felony conviction for domestic violence, the LA Times reported.

According to the Times:

Daniel Carlon, 23, allegedly stabbed Flor Medrano, 30, in her apartment in the 1300 block of Cochran Avenue as LAPD officers from the Wilshire Division were outside in their car filling out a crime report.

According to U.S. Department of Homeland Security records, Carlon had been sent back to Mexico twice – once in January 2007 based on an immigration judge’s order and again in June of this year following his arrest by federal immigration officials.

Officers responding to a 911 call saw the suspect stabbing Medrano and "an officer-involved shooting occurred," said Los Angeles police Officer Bruce Borihanh of the Media Relations Section.

Both were sent to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Medrano died of stab wounds, and Carlon died of gunshot wounds.

Records also indicate Carlon had a prior felony conviction for domestic violence in 2005 the Times said.
