A man is in custody after he allegedly tried to ram into California Highway Patrol officers with his Mercedes Friday night.

CHP initially tried to pull over the driver for failure to yield near Magnolia Avenue and Whitsett Avenue in Valley Village around 11 p.m., officials said.

The driver had a female passenger who was let out of the car. The driver of the Mercedes then attempted to ram into the officers. The officers shot at the vehicle, but the vehicle fled and a short pursuit ensued, LAPD Sgt. Morales said.

The abandoned vehicle was located on Riverside Drive just east of Coldwater Canyon in North Hollywood.

Police detained the female passenger for questioning while they set up a perimeter in an attempt to locate the suspect.
