Man Arrested at Border for Killing Mother in Hit-and-Run: CHP

Felipe Gonzalez, 43, was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol at San Ysidro Friday afternoon

A man was arrested at the U.S-Mexico border Friday for allegedly killing a woman in a hit-and-run crash in Riverside County.

Felipe Gonzalez, 43, was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol at San Ysidro Friday afternoon in connection with the death of Jennifer Blakley, according to jail records.

Homeland resident Gonzalez is charged with felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and felony hit-run death.

He is being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside in lieu of $75,000 bail. Gonzalez is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

Jennifer Blakley, 36, was walking southbound along Sultanas Street in Homeland just before 10:30 p.m. with her friend Vickie Rood when a driver in a black Ford Mustang veered towards them and rammed them from behind, according to the CHP.

It was unclear what caused the driver to veer off the roadway and at what speed the car was traveling, officials said.

Blakley died from her injuries and Rood was taken to a nearby hospital with "major injuries."

She left behind a 10-year-old son, 17-year-old daughter and husband.

"I loved her laugh, I loved her smile, I just loved everything about her," her son Anthony Campbell said.
