Man Arrested for Allegedly Throwing ‘Bottle Bomb' at Child in Santa Ana

Police arrested a man suspected of throwing a makeshift "bottle bomb" at a child in Santa Ana Wednesday night.

Officers responded to a complaint about fireworks in the 900 block of West 17th Street at about 6:45 p.m. and learned at the scene that a bottle modified to explode was thrown at a child walking through an alley, Santa Ana police said in a news release.

Officers found remnants of the makeshift bomb at the scene, which indicated legal fireworks were used to detonate in the bottle, police said.

The suspect was identified as Ryan Brown, a resident who lived at a nearby complex.

During the early investigation, Brown reportedly fled from his residence. Officers returned to the residence and arrested him about 10:30 p.m.

Brown was booked on suspicion of using a destructive device causing bodily injury and willful cruelty to a child with possible injury or death.

Information about the child's condition was not immediately available.
