Man Arrested in Burglaries of Mexican Consulate, Santa Ana Businesses

A 32-year-old man was behind bars Thursday on suspicion of committing at least five burglaries, including two break-ins at the Mexican Consulate in Santa Ana, police said.

Alberto Sierra was arrested about 7:45 p.m. Wednesday after officers patrolling in the area of 1400 North Cabrillo Park Drive recognized the suspect's vehicle, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

"They booked him for five burglaries, but they're looking at him for eight," Bertagna said.

Sierra is accused of breaking into the consulate at 2100 E. Fourth St. on July 10 and Sept. 17, Bertagna said. He allegedly stole office equipment, money and American Red Cross donation containers, Bertagna said.

The three other burglaries happened in July and August, Bertagna said.

He is accused of taking computer equipment worth thousands of dollars from those businesses, Bertagna said.
