Man Arrested in Fatal Shooting in Redondo Beach

A 19-year-old man was arrested Friday in connection with a double shooting near a Redondo Beach Arco station that left one man dead and another man hospitalized, and remains in custody in the city jail on $2 million bail, police said.

Erik Martinez was taken into custody in Long Beach at 8 p.m. Friday near Daisy Avenue and 10th Street, Redondo Beach Police Department Lt. Fabian Saucedo said in a news release.

Martinez's capture and arrest -- in which the Long Beach Police Department assisted -- came after a daylong manhunt after he was identified as the suspect in the deadly incident.

Police officers and SWAT team members were not able to apprehend him earlier Friday executing a search warrant at a Lawndale location, Lt. Rick Kochheim said.

Martinez was the gunman in a dispute near the gas station at near Inglewood and Marine avenues at 4 p.m. Thursday, authorities said.

Witnesses told police that two people became involved in a confrontation in the crosswalk at the intersection, and a third person intervened against Martinez, Saucedo said.

Martinez then pulled out a firearm and shot the two other people, Saucedo said.
