Man Attacked, Woman Threatened at Azusa Park

Police were searching for two men who attacked a man and threatened to sexually assault the woman he was with at an Azusa park early Saturday morning.

The 18-year-old man and his 24-year-old female companion were walking at Gladstone Park about 1:10 a.m. when they were approached by the two men, Azusa police said in a news release.

One of the two men "asked the male victim where he was from, which is a common gang-related question," police said.

When the victim said he was not involved with gangs, one of the men sprayed him in the face with what appeared to be spray paint, police said. The victim ran off.

The woman was then asked what she was carrying in her purse and threatened to be sexually assaulted, police said. She was told to leave and also ran away.

The victims called police from a nearby home. When police arrived, the attackers were gone, along with a motorized scooter the victims left behind.

The attackers were described as Hispanic men about 18 to 20 years old.
One was 5-foot-10-inches tall, weighing about 160 pounds. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a black baseball cap, black pants and a black bandana on his face.

The second attacker was 5-foot-7-inches tall, about 150 pounds and was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and white shorts.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Azusa Police Department at 626-812-3200.
