Man in Custody After Barricade Situation Prompts School Lockdown in Lincoln Heights

A man was taken into custody after barricading himself with a gun inside a Lincoln Heights home and prompting a lockdown of nearby schools Friday morning, officials said.

At about 5:30 a.m., officers responding to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon spotted a man with a gun in the 200 block of South Avenue 18, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

SWAT team members arrived at the scene where police said the man refused to come out of the home. The suspect was taken into custody about 9:30 a.m.

Albion Elementary School and other schools within the campus, including Endeavor Charter Prep, were locked down due to the police activity, LA School Police tweeted. The schools resumed normal operations shortly after the standoff was over.

No injuries were reported.
