Orange County Man Calls Police, Reports He Strangled His Mother

A man called Orange police Monday reporting that he had strangled his mother during a dispute.

The suspect, 26-year-old Brandon Sanchez, dialed 911 at about 2:45 p.m., according to Orange Police Sgt. Phil McMullin. The woman was choked to death in a house in the 5800 block of East Ridgemont Court, McMullin said.

Officials found the woman dead when they arrived to the residence. The victim's son remained on scene and was arrested, the sergeant said.

Neighbors were shocked to hear about the death.

"We're just a really quire neighborhood and stuff just really doesn't happen here," said Maryann Lawson, a neighbor. "It's quite shocking."

Residents of the area did not recall hearing about domestic issues between Sanchez and his mother.

"It was all a big surprise to me," neighbor Kamron Kim said. "We didn't hear any family issues or any yelling at night or any sort of thing."

Orange Hills Community residents said the victim was friendly and would often make small talk to neighbors as she checked the mail.

Anyone with information about the killing was asked to call police at (714) 744-7444.
