Man Charged With Kidnapping After Alleged Victim Tries to Exit Moving Vehicle: Police

A woman attempting to exit a moving car in Orange County alerted police officers to an alleged sexual assault, according to the Placentia Police Department.

The victim and suspect met at a night club in Anaheim Hills, where the suspect allegedly offered the victim a ride home after her purse was stolen, according to a police press release.

Jose Antonio Rodriguez, 43, was charged with kidnapping for the purpose of a sex crime and booked into Orange County Jail on $1 million bail.

Police pulled over a car at about 2:53 a.m. on Placentia Avenue near Chapman Avenue after officers observed the woman trying to get out of the moving vehicle.

She ran to an officer when the vehicle came to a stop, saying the man in the car had sexually assaulted her, police said. While they spoke, the man fled the scene in the car.

A police helicopter joined the pursuit and identified the parked supsect vehicle in the front yar of a residence, according to police. Rodriguez was lying on the ground near the vehicle and surrendered to officers.

Rodriguez allegedly began to sexually assault the victim while driving, police said, and he apparently stopped her from exiting the car.
