A suspected robber faces a capital murder charge in the slaying of a doughnut shop worker in South Los Angeles last month, prosecutors said.
Travell Mossett 38, was charged with one count of murder with the special circumstance of murder during the commission of a robbery and a special allegation he personally used an edged weapon.
On Jan. 13, Mossett walked into a fried chicken and doughnut shop at about 9:15 p.m. and placed an order. Prosecutors said Mossett then allegedly jumped over a counter and stole cash out of a register.
Mossett fled and 29-year-old Andy Ung, who works at the shop, gave chase. Prosecutors said Mossett then is accused of fatally stabbing Ung in a parking lot.
Prosecutors are recommending Mossett be held without bail.
If convicted as charged, Mossett could face life without possibility of parole or the death penalty. The decision on whether to seek the death penalty will be made at a later date.
