Huntington Park police are warning local residents of a caller claiming to be a gang member attempting to extort money from businesses.
The man calls local businesses claiming gang affiliation and then demanding money in exchange for protection, according to a statement from Huntington Park Police Department.
He claims to be from a local gang or prison gang, but it's not clear if he actually has ties to any such groups.
Multiple business owners have contacted police to report the extortions. The Huntington Park Police Department’s gang investigators and other law enforcement agencies are investigating.
