Man Dead After July 4th Block Party Fight

A 55-year-old man was found unresponsive in a street after participating in a fight that broke out during an Independence Day block party.

Police are investigating a man's death at a neighborhood Fourth of July block party as a homicide, authorities said Sunday.

The 55-year-old man died after participating in a fight that broke out at the large neighborhood party in Santa Ana. Officers came to the 2500 block of North Lindwood Avenue around 9:40 p.m. when the man was reported to be unresponsive in the street.

OCFA was performing CPR on the man when officers arrived, and he was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities are still investigating whether the man died from injuries sustained from an assault during the fight or if he died from a medical condition. Homicide detectives are on the scene, but an autopsy had not been conducted early Sunday to determine a cause of death.
