Man Dies After Officer Involved Shooting in Playa Vista

A man who "was not entirely dressed" was killed early Friday in a police officer-involved shooting in Playa Vista, authorities said.

The shooting in the LAPD's Pacific Division occurred at about 3:15 a.m. in the 5200 block of Crescent Park West in Playa Vista, Richard French of the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Officers went to the location on a report of a dispute involving a man and a taxi driver, police said. Authorities told the Daily Breeze that the man was naked and jumping on vehicles.

The fatally wounded man's name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives.

LAPD Sgt. Mitzi Grasso said the man "was not entirely dressed" when he got into the confrontation with police. He reportedly lived in the neighborhood, and had taken a cab there from Hollywood.

"I heard them try to detain him and he would not comply and there was a fight, a physical fight, and then I heard two shots," resident Monica Vogelbacher told a news video cameraman.

Two officers suffered minor injuries in a scuffle with the suspect.
