College Student Shot to Death in Carson

Detectives were searching for the gunman who fatally shot a college student visiting his family in Carson Monday night, authorities said.

The shooting was reported around 7:45 p.m. in the 1600 block of East Gladwick Avenue, according to a news release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Witnesses told deputies the shoother was driving a two-door car that stopped in front of the victim while he was standing with other people. The man got out of the car and began shooting, striking the victim in the upper torso, according to the news release.

Deputies arrived and found a man on the sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics treated the man at the scene where he was pronounced dead, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The gunman then returned to the car and drove eastbound on East Galdwick Avenue.

The motive for the shooting was unknown.
