Man Found Bludgeoned to Death in Highland Park

The body of a man who was bludgeoned to death was discovered at a Los Angeles park Monday afternoon, police said.

Police were called to Sycamore Grove Park in Highland Park about 3:30 p.m. and found the body near a set of stairs next to the 110 Freeway, Los Angeles Police Department officials said.

The man was in his 40s or 50s, police said. He had signs of trauma to his head and may have been dead for several hours prior to the officers' arrival.

Police said the man may have been homeless.

"There was talk earlier about some transient issues in the area. But that's typical only because the riverbed runs behind this park and we do have quite a bit of homeless encampments up and down the riverbed," said Sgt. John Cuenca of the LAPD.

No further information was immediately available.
