Man Found Dead in Hollywood Hills Apartment Complex

The body of a man who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound was found Tuesday on the ground in the parking structure of an apartment complex in the Cahuenga Pass area, prompting a homicide investigation, police said.

The body was found at about 1:30 p.m. in the 3600 block of Barham Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

According to a witness, the body was found next to a car.

"It was a Mercedes, a black Mercedes," said Mehdi Dumartin, who lives in the Toluca Hills Apartments. "It was brand new."

"There was a woman screaming, really, really screaming," Dumartin said. "And then there were 30 cops all around here."

Another witness said he heard what he thinks was gunfire.

"(It) seemed to come straight from the parking lot," said Ricky Cruz.

A homicide investigation was begun, police said.

The man was between 30 and 35 years old, according to LAPD Officer Tony Im.

The apartment complex was previously known as the Oakwood Apartments, and has long been a home for established and aspiring actors and artists.

It has also been marked by tragedy.

Singer Rick James was found dead inside his apartment in 2004, and in 2010 actor Corey Haim was rushed out of the complex in an ambulance and died a short time later.
