Man Found Shot to Death in Glendale's First Homicide of the Year: Police

A 25-year-old Florida man was found shot to death in the front yard of a home in Glendale early Saturday morning in what police say is the city's first homicide of the year.

The shooting was reported around 3:55 a.m. in the 1600 block of The Midway Street, according to a news release from the Glendale Police Department.

Chris Carone, a resident, said he heard four shots before calling 911. After the call he heard two more shots.

"It was just in front of the house where they found two more shells," Carone said.

Officers arrived and found the man, later identified by coroner's officials as Phillip Franklin Niles Jr. of Daytona Beach, suffering from several gunshot wounds on the front lawn. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Homeowners said they did not know the victim.

Police were searching cars parked in the area for leads.
