Man Gets Probation for Sex With Shelter Dog

A 62-year-old man who adopted a Southern California shelter dog has been placed on three years' probation for having sex with the female German shepherd mix.

Los Angeles prosecutors said Tuesday that Wade Strickland pleaded guilty to animal cruelty and lewd conduct.

Strickland was arrested by the police Animal Cruelty Task Force on Feb. 2 after he was seen sexually violating the dog beneath a freeway overpass. The City Attorney's office says Strickland has adopted shelter dogs in south Los Angeles in the past and was reported for mistreating the animals.

Witnesses were willing to testify in the latest incident.

Besides probation, the judge ordered Strickland not to own or possess any animals, submit to law enforcement searches at any time and attend 24 animal care counseling sessions.
