One man was killed and another was injured after gunfire erupted at the end of a party early Saturday morning in the Valinda area near La Puente.

The shooting was reported around 2:50 a.m. in the 400 block of Shipman Avenue in the unincorporated community of East Valinda, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies arrived and found one man dead and another man wounded. The injured victim was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

A description of the shooter was not immediately available. Witnesses said they saw a white SUV speeding westbound on Northam Avenue, authorities said.

The shooting marked the fifth homicide investigation overnight in LA County, the sheriff's department said.

The violence began around 9:15 p.m. Friday when a man was fatally shot and another wounded by two men on a bike in the 1900 block of 78th Street in Florence community of South Los Angeles, deputies said.

Detectives were also investigating the death of a woman who was walking on a sidewalk in Carson when she was shot from behind around 12:15 a.m.  She had just left a party at a house a few doors down on East Carson St. and was walking to her car with a friend, said several who gathered at the location with flowers and candles.  The woman was identified as Cynthia Ambriz, 19, of Wilmington.
