A man was killed following an officer-involved shooting early Saturday morning in Riverside, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The shooting was reported around 1:45 a.m. on La Cadena Drive between Center Street and Iowa Avenue, according to the CHP.
CHP officers attempted to conduct an enforcement stop of a silver Dodge pick-up truck, but the truck stopped on La Cadena Drive and the driver opened fire at the officers, striking their patrol car. Officers then returned fire, striking the truck and the driver of the vehicle.
The man shot by officers was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP. No officers were injured.
During the shooting, the truck's passenger fled the scene on foot and has yet to be found.
The CHP turned the investigation over to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff's Central Homicide Unit responded.
