A man was killed in a hit-and-run in Newport Beach Thursday.

The pedestrian, identified as 23-year-old Travis Marton of Valencia, was found on the roadway on Pacific Coast Highway around 3 a.m.

Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.

A car was pulled over by officers with the Laguna Beach Police Department soon after the man's body was discovered. The car had front end damage, and the driver, Ronald Aviles, was arrested.

Police said the car was a yellow cab.

Aviles is being held in lieu of $50,000. Police said alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.

PCH was closed at Newport Drive in both directions for several hours as police investigated the collision.

Police are asking for witnesses who were in the area from 3 a.m to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Bill Hume of the Newport Beach Police Department at 949-644-3746.
