Man Punched Chasing Wife's Would-Be Kidnapper, Suspects Still at Large: Police

A woman escaped a kidnapper in Los Angeles County this week, but not before her husband was punched trying to protect her, police said.

The Montebello Police Department is searching for two men who drove off in a white Chevy pickup truck in the attempted kidnapping, leaving behind "materials consistent with a kidnapping," police said in a statement Friday.

The would-be kidnapper in a gray hoodie tried to grab the Montebello woman walking to her exterior laundry room at about 9 a.m. Monday, police said. He tried to pull her into the laundry room but the woman ran away.

""One of the gentlemen grabbed her by her hair she was able to run out of the laundry room and scream," Montebello police Sgt. Mark Marty said.

Her husband saw the kidnapper run down the driveway and caught up with him, according to police. The two fought before another man, 6-foot-2 and wearing a mask and gloves, intervened, punching the husband and ending the fight.

The punch "kind of put him in a bit of a daze," Marty said.

The accomplices escaped in the truck.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call 323-887-1254.
