Man Arrested in String of South LA Armed Robberies

Police arrested a man Thursday morning in connection with a string of robberies in South Los Angeles this week, including one in which a Big Lots store employee was shot in the stomach.

The suspect was identified as Jeffery Milles, 55, of Los Angeles. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police said a silver-colored Cadillac Crossover with paper plates, identical to the SUV officers stopped Wednesday night at Slauson and Arlington avenues, was identified in connection with the robberies. The location where the SUV was located in the vicinity of all three robberies, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Inside that SUV was a man witnesses say closely resembles the armed robber whose photo police provided Wednesday.

A 42-year-old female cashier was shot Tuesday during a robbery at a Big Lots on Slauson and Western avenues and a male cashier was shot Wednesday at an ARCO gas station on Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard.

"I'm praying for him, I hope he'll be all right," said Joseph Smith, who knows the male victim. "He's been here the longest and he's probably the nicest guy here."

Joseph Benelyahu was the third victim in the string of robberies.

"God help them to recover and lead normal lives," Benelyahu said about the two other victims.
