Man Run Down by Own Car Suffered Broken Ribs, Collapsed Lung, Wife Says

A 53-year-old man who was run down with his own car during a road rage incident caught on video suffered multiple injuries, including broken ribs and a collapsed lung, his wife said Tuesday.

Sabine Leavitt says her husband, Tracy, told her he had gotten into a dispute with two men in Hemet on Friday. The fight escalated when they threw a soda can at his car, so he stopped to confront them on Gilbert Street.

In cellphone video released by police, Tracy Leavitt can be seen arguing with the men. At one point he grabs a skateboard and breaks the driver side window of their truck. Leavitt then scuffles with one of the men before the other gets into Leavitt's car and runs him down, leaving Leavitt bloodied and severely injured on the ground.

Angelica Parra, who shot cellphone video of the attack, called 911.

"He was just telling me to help him," Parra said.

Sabine Leavitt says she can't bring herself to watch the video.

"I don't want to see it. I don't want to see it," she said.

"He had a complete hip replacement screws and plates put in his leg," she added.

For Tracy Leavitt, the road to recovery will be long and painful. But his wife says she's just glad he's alive.

"He is a very caring, loving good guy," she said.

Family members are asking for the public's help in identifying the two men. Anyone with information was urged to call the Hemet Police Department at 951-765-2324.
