A Woodland Hills man was hospitalized in critical condition after being beaten and shot by a home intruder Sunday night, police said.
The man was inside his home in the 23000 block of Clarendon Street when an intruder pistol whipped him, then shot him at least twice in the abdomen, Los Angeles Police Department officials said.
Covered in blood, the victim ran to a neighbor's home for help. Police were called about 10:30 p.m.
Mike Mosher, an NBC News executive producer, was one of the neighbors who tried to comfort the injured man.
"He was beaten bad," Mosher said. "He says, 'I'm dying, I'm dying.' And My son and I kept telling him that, 'No you're not dying. You're going to be OK.'"
When officers showed up, they searched the victim's home but did not find the intruder. Police said it was unclear if anything was taken from the home.
The man was taken to the hospital, where he was being treated for his injuries, including a fractured skull.
Police said the victim is involved with the collection of sports memorabilia and it appears as though he was targeted.
