Man Shot and Killed in Fairfax District

A man was shot and killed in broad dayling on Monday in the Fairfax district, scaring and shocking nearby shoppers.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting, which was reported about 5:45 p.m. on Melrose Avenue near Sierra Bonita Avenue, according to Los Angeles police Officer Mike Lopez.

The gunman stood over the victim and picked something up near the body before speeding away in a SUV, according to one witness.

Multiple witnesses reported hearing numerous gunshots.

"We heard like ten gunshots and a car taking off," James Hill, who was present when the shooting occurred, said.

Authorities said a gun was recovered at the scene.
"We do have a firearm at the scene," LAPD Lt. John Radke said. "This could have been an exchange of shots.
Officals are collecting and reviewing surveilance footage from nearby stores to gather more information on the gunman's appearance.
"This is extremelt rare," Radke said. "It's been a long time since we've had a homicide in this area.
