A man was shot by police after allegedly driving a stolen vehicle toward an officer in Claremont overnight Monday.
An officer was checking the 500 block of west San Jose Avenue for a reported stolen vehicle when saw a vehicle fitting the description of the taken white 1996 Honda Accord, according to a news release from the Claremont Police Department.
As the officer drove closer, the vehicle fled the area at a high rate of speed, officials said. When the officer caught up to the vehicle in the alley, it appeared to be abandoned, police said.
When the officer walked toward the vehicle, the driver allegedly drove it in reverse toward the officer. The officer opened fire and struck the man.
