A man was shot and wounded Wednesday on a Metro bus in the Glassell Park area, apparently while protecting his teen-age son from the gunman, who was quickly arrested, authorities said.

The shooting occurred about 10:30 a.m. in the 3700 block of Eagle Rock Boulevard near Riverside Drive, said Los Angeles police Officer Norma Eisenman.

Paramedics transported the unidentified 39-year-old man to Huntington Hospital in stable condition.

Metro spokesman Jose Ubaldo said the shooting occurred aboard a bus operating on Line 84. Authorities quickly arrested the suspect, whose name was not immediately released, and were searching for the weapon, Ubaldo said.

According to the preliminary investigation, the victim was on the bus with his 16-year-old son when another passenger, possibly a gang member, pulled out a gun, apparently intending to shoot the teen, Ubaldo said.

"The man moved forward to protect his son, and he was shot," Ubaldo said.
