Man Sought After Pursuit Crash That Left Passenger Hospitalized

Police were searching for a man who ran away after a pursuit ended in a crash off a freeway embankment that injured his female passenger early Tuesday in Garden Grove.

The pursuit started after 1 a.m. at Garden Grove Boulevard and Valley View, police Lt. Bob Bogue said in a news release.

Garden Grove police were patrolling motels near Beach and Garden Grove boulevards when one of the officers saw a bronze Honda Accord driving out of a motel parking lot, turn off its lights and head west on Garden Grove Boulevard.

When the officer tried to pull the car over, the Honda sped up and ran several red lights.

Police chased the car at speeds over 80 mph before losing sight of it near Garden Grove and Valley View Street.

Police later spotted the car on its side down the side of a freeway embankment in ice plants near where the Garden Grove (22) Freeway merges with the San Diego (405) Freeway.

The driver had lost control around a curve.
