Man Sought in Santa Monica Sexual Assault

Police were seeking the public's help to find a man wanted in connection with the sexual assault of a woman at a Santa Monica beach, authorities said.

According to the Santa Monica Police Department, a woman walking southbound along the waterline in the 1600 block of the beach around 6:15 p.m. on Jan. 13 when she spotted a man walking towards her.

The man allegedly said something in Spanish and as the woman continued walking, then turned, grabbed her from behind and threw her to the ground, police said. The man held the woman down and secually assaulted her before fleeing northbound along the beach's waterline, police said.

"I was amazed and disappointed because it's such a safe area usually," said Susan Parker, a Santa Monica resident. "It's kinda scary, especially when you like to walk down here like I do."

The suspect was described as a light-skinned male Hispanic or white in his 30s. He is believed to be between 5 foot 6 and 5 foot 8 inches tall and weigh approximately 180 pounds.

He was last seen wearing dark colored pants and a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood pulled over his head, according to police.
