Arrest Made in Hit-and-Run Wheelchair Death

Police arrested Brandon Joel Busse at a motel in Tustin almost a week after the crash and death of Marc Borgfield

A man has been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run death of a man in a wheelchair in Fullerton, officials said Monday.

Brandon Joel Busse, 28, was arrested over the weekend at a motel in Tustin, where investigators also found in the parking lot a late-model white Ford Explorer believed to have struck and killed a man.

Marc Borgfield, believed to be in his 60s, was crossing in the middle of the street in the 2600 block of East Orangethorpe Avenue near Vine Avenue just before midnight Aug. 18 in his wheelchair when he was struck.

Borgfield was ejected about 150 to 170 feet from the wheelchair and landed in the street.

Surveillance video of the collision showed sparks flying from the wheelchair as it was dragged down the street. Police said there had been other accidents near the intersection, and that Borgfield had been involved in another crash in the same area before.

Officials said that at the time of the collision, Borgfield’s blood-alcohol content was more than four times the legal limit.

Busse has been charged with one count of felony hit and run causing injury or death, according to the Fullerton Police Department.
