A taxi driver and father of four was shot to death Sunday night in a possible robbery attempt in El Sereno, and now police are looking for his shooter, authorities said.

The shooting was reported just after 9:30 p.m. in the 4300 block of Worth Street in El Sereno, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. When officers arrived, they found a man on the roadway, suffering from gunshot wounds.

The victim, identified by LA County coroner's officials as 43-year-old Antonio Paz Gonzalez, ran a taxi company in East LA with his brother, according to family.

Gonzalez's eldest son, Fernando Paz, described his father as a kind and generous man who had driven taxis to support his family for nearly two decades.

"Just very unfortunate. It's very hard to accept it," said Fernando Paz. "We just have to move forward and celebrate his memory."

Gonzalez was believed to have picked up two male passengers after a call came into their dispatch, his brother said.

A phone number associated with the call has been released to authorities.

Police were canvassing the area for surveillance video to help with the investigation.

Suspect information was not immediately available.
