Man Tries to Kidnap 10-Year-Old Child From Park

Authorities were searching for an attempted kidnapper who allegedly dragged a 10-year-old child from a park in Buena Park, police said.

The incident was reported Wednesday at 3 p.m. at San Marino Park, according to a news release from the Buena Park Police Department.

The child was sitting on a park bench when a man approached from behind and tried to drag the child away while covering his or her mouth. The man managed to drag the child a few feet away before the child was able to break free, police said.

Police on Friday released a sketch of the attacker, believed to be in his 40s. He was described as a heavyset man, about 6 feet tall, with brown hair, a goatee and a scab on his right cheek. He was wearing a red shirt, jean shorts, a red hat and yellow-tinted sunglasses.

It is unknown where the man went following the incident, or if he was associated with a vehicle.

The attempted kidnapping took place across the street from San Marino School about 30 minutes after students were released for the day.

Centralia School District sent a letter to parents notifying them about the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or with any other information, is asked to contact Buena Park Police Department Sgt. Bret Carter at 714-213-0721.
