Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Assault of Woman, Impersonation of Police

The suspect set up a camera on a nightstand to record the assault.

A security guard who pretended to be a police officer so he could rape a prostitute while recording the attack pleaded guilty today and was immediately sentenced to more than 24 years in prison, according to court records.

Raul Antonio Ramos, 28, of Westminster, could have faced up to 50 years to life in prison if convicted at trial, prosecutors said previously.

Ramos pleaded guilty to rape, rape by threat to arrest and deport, forcible oral copulation, and falsely representing himself as a police officer, all felonies. A charge of oral copulation under the color of authority was dropped in the plea bargain.

Ramos was sentenced to 24 years and eight months in prison, according to court records. Ramos worked as a security guard in Santa Ana, Deputy District Attorney Rick Zimmer said when charges were filed in December 2015.

Ramos solicited the then-19-year-old victim Dec. 11, 2015, for sex, the prosecutor said. When they got into a room at a Ramada Inn in Anaheim, he told her he was a police officer, showed her his security guard badge and threatened to take her to jail if she did not have sex with him, Zimmer said.

Ramos put a GoPro camera on a nightstand or something similar to record the attack, Zimmer said.

At some point during the assault, the woman grabbed Ramos' keys and camera and ran out of the hotel room, wearing only a towel, and went to a nearby business to get help, Zimmer said.
