Officers Fatally Shoot Man After Standoff

Officers fatally shot a man in his 20s who barricaded himself inside a home in Sylmar early Wednesday morning, police said.

The standoff began around 7 p.m. after police received a call for a man possibly suffering from mental health issues in the 14700 Lakeside Street, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Officers arrived at the scene and observed the man go into his family's home and barricade himself.

SWAT was called and arrived to the scene.

Police said the man was armed with a knife and they used "less than lethal" measures, including Taser and bean bags.

SWAT deployed gas and the man later came out of the residence, and a struggle ensued, police said.

The man cut a SWAT officer on the forearm, police said.

The SWAT officer was treated and released.
