Man Wounded in Deputy-Involved Shooting in Panorama City

Authorities said the man brandished a knife and lunged toward deputies prior to the shooting

A man was shot and wounded Wednesday afternoon by a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy.

The man was shot around 2:50 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Roscoe Boulevard and Ventura County Avenue, according to the sheriff's department. He suffered non-life threatening injuries and no deputies were hurt in the shooting.

Shortly before the shooting, the man boarded a bus and got into an argument with the driver on Sepulveda Boulevard and Chase Street in North Hills.

He stabbed an 18-year-old man in the neck and a 23-year-old woman in the arm, sheriff's said. The two passengers — who were not involved in the argument — suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The man then boarded a different bus where the second bus driver recognized him and alerted authorities.

He brandished a knife and lunged toward deputies before the shooting, Lt. John Corina said. The deputy fired and the man was taken to a hospital.

The shooting is currently under investigation per sheriff's protocol.

Investigators are now reviewing surveillance video from both Metro buses to see if they can piece together the events that led up to the shooting.
