Man in Critical Condition After Marina Del Rey Apartment Fire

A man in 50s was in critical condition after a fire erupted in a three-story apartment building in Marina Del Rey, officials said.

Residents of the building in the 14000 block of Palawan Way were evacuated after the fire broke out shortly before 7 a.m., according to Los Angeles County Fire Supervisor Ed Pickett.

The fire burned sections of the first and second floor of the building, and also spread into the third floor, Pickett said.

Jake DiMare, a resident of the building, said he went out to the balcony and saw a "raging inferno."

"I ran the second and I ran the third floor and I just slammed on everybody's doors and told them to get out," DiMare said.

Firefighters pulled a man from one of the units in the building. He was transported to a hospital in "very critical condition," Pickett said.

The blaze was extinguished at about 7:25 a.m. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
