Father Shot While Walking to Store in Burbank

Police are on the lookout for the gunman who shot a 27-year-old father who neighbors said was carrying his 2-year-old son while walking to a convenience store.

Police said the shooting occurred around 11:10 p.m. Tuesday night in an alley near the 400 block of Elmwood Avenue. The victim, whose name is being withheld, suffered two gunshot wounds to the leg.

The boy was unharmed.

"I was in bed when I came out and saw a lot of people, a lot of police cars, a lot of action," said neighborhood resident Russ Cirincione.

The shooting occurred while the man was walking his 2-year-old son to a nearby 7-Eleven store to buy milk. The shooter drove up next to the man and opened fire.

The victim is in stable condition.

Investigators interviewed the victim at the hospital, but said they do not have a clear description of the shooter or the type of car used during the shooting.

The victim's family said they were concerned because they do not know if the shooting was random or if the victim was targeted.

Residents said they were worried, adding that shootings are uncommon in their neighborhood.

Lloyd Buehner, who lives in the area, said he heard the gunshots and thought they were fireworks until he heard screams and someone yelling.

"It makes you wonder what's going on all the time," Buehner said.

The shooting remains under investigation.
